Who am I

Welcome at my website!

My name is Rene Veenstra.

I life in a  smaal village, called Kollum (prodince: Friesland).
This is a smal village, roughthly situated  between
Leeuwarden and Groningen.

History

I am breedingbirds since my childhood.
It all began when mu father took over a aviary from someone, who stoped with this hobby.

It was an avairy with all kinds of tropical little birds who lived in eachorther company.
It was a beautiful sight of colors and varieties.
There was a new aviary build, against a shed of stone.
But the aviary and it's night compartment was badly isolated, so in wintertime some of the birds died.
These birds had to be replaced, by buying new ones.
You can imagine that it became an expensive hobby, so we decided to buy more birds that could resist the winter.

We made a choise of the birds could stay and the new birds to buy.
Most of the time you then end up with a mixture of parakeet varieties.
This mixture of parakeet varieties we had to make a breeding choise.

In 1992 I went from my parentshouse to live on my own.
I decided to build a few aviaries.
One aviary  with rosella's, an aviary with tropical birds and one aviary with canaries and a copple lutino cockatiel.
After two years I decided to rebuild the aviaries.

Of my  existing aviaries I now made 8 aviaries, four aviaries of 2,5 meter dept by 1 meter width  and four of 3 meter dept by 1 meter width.

At first I kept all kind of parakeet.
Later on my interest changed and I kept more and more Australian parakeet.
For example red rumpeed, cockatiel barnard parakeet en Eastern rosella
.

In 1996 I became a member of the parkieten sociëteit (parakeet society), and bought my first kind of agapornis: the personatus personatus .
It was my plan to breed a lot chicks of these birds, but after a while I didn't like it any more.

When I bought my first agapornis roseicollis roseicollis  in 1998, I saw the varieties of mutations and the posibilities of making mutations. By then I deceded to specialise on breeding with the agapornis roseicollis.

How is it getting on now?.

For health reasons it was necessery to sell some of the breeding couples.
In may 96 I also sold some breedingcages and two big ones.
I rebuild the birdcompaetments and placed tree small aviaries to create more air that can be refressed.
I also placed an airrefresser and a ionisator.
This all was necessary to create clean air for my health.
Sinse then my health is a lot better.
In February and March 1996 I bought 15 long and half long feathered birds.
Beautyful birds with very intense red masks.
It is my intention to breed on these intense red and other collors of the half and half long feathered birds.
More about this in the future.
